Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus presents the Summer Writing Festival, located in central Brooklyn and with a focus on commercial fiction genres.

4pm-5pm: The Art of the Romance Novel, Moderated by Zachary Sergi With authors Brian D. Kennedy, Annika Sharma, Meredith Schorr, Page Powars & TJ Alexander, in Kumble Theater on LIU's Brooklyn Campus.

About the authors
Hannah V. Sawyerr was recognized as the Youth Poet Laureate of Baltimore in 2016. Her spoken word has been featured on the BBC’s World Have Your Say program, as well as the National Education Association’s “Do You Hear Us?” campaign. Her written word has been included in Essence, xoNecole, and gal-dem. She holds a BA in English from Morgan State University and an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. Sawyerr is an English professor at Loyola Marymount University and lives in Los Angeles, California. ALL THE FIGHTING PARTS is her debut novel.

Page Powars is the author of young adult titles The Borrow a Boyfriend Club and the forthcoming And They Were Roommates. He also helps with music soundtracks, sobs over The Untamed, and unfortunately plays Genshin Impact. Originally from Michigan, he lives in the New York City area.

Join us as we celebrate the debut LGBTQ YA novel by Page Powars - The Borrow a Boyfriend Club! Powars will introduce us to Noah and Asher and the covert high school club masquerading as an Italian Appreciation Club. He will be joined in conversation by Tashie Bhuiyan (Counting Down with You).

Page Powars is the author of the forthcoming young adult novels The Borrow a Boyfriend Club and And They Were Roommates. He is based in the New York City area. Outside of writing, Page helps with soundtracks, sobs over The Untamed, and unfortunately plays Genshin Impact.

Tashie Bhuiyan is the author of Counting Down with You and A Show for Two, and a New Yorker through and through. She recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Public Relations, and hopes to change the world, one book at a time. She loves writing stories about girls with wild hearts, boys who wear rings, and gaining agency through growth. When she's not doing that, she can be found in a Chipotle or bookstore, insisting 2010 is the best year in cinematic history. (Read: Tangled and Inception.)
